William Byrd

William L. “Bill” Byrd, 90, of Walton, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood.

Bill was a U.S. Army combat veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Bill continued his military service in the Korean War where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (2nd Award). In all, Bill dedicated 26 years of his life to serving his country as an infantryman, rising to the rank of First Sergeant, before finally retiring from the Ohio National Guard. Following military service, Bill worked at Ford Motor Company for 30 years in Sharonville, Ohio as a lead inspector in the quality control department.

He was a member of Erlanger Christian Church, Florence Masonic Lodge F & AM 949, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn “Tina” Byrd. He is survived by son, Jerry Byrd of Walton, daughter, Teresa McQueen of Florence, sister Ann Alliss of Macon Georgia, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 18, 11:00 a.m. at MIDDENDORF-BULLOCK FUNERAL HOME, ERLANGER. Visitation will begin there Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military rites at Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made, in Bill’s memory, to a charity of the donor’s choice.
