Rowena Dailey

Biography Rowena E. Wells Dailey, 100, of Elsmere and Fort Mitchell, died Sunday, November 1, at Madonna Manor in Villa Hills.

She was born Rowena Elizabeth Wells in Aledo, Illinois on December 22, 1908, the second child of James and Sara Rowena Everett Wells. On August 1, 1932, she married Maurice Anthony "Mo" Dailey. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1959. Her brother, Everett F. Wells, son-in-law, Dr. Rayburn Rucker, and grandchildren, Monica Rucker and Deron Rucker, also preceded her in death.

Together Ro and Mo had three daughters and three sons, who survive, Patricia (the late Rayburn) Rucker of Madison, Indiana, Maureen (Ed) Bessler of Crestview Hills, Jim (Sally) Dailey of Huber Heights, Ohio, Tony Dailey of Ft. Mitchell, Ginger (Phil) Beasley of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Joe (Mary) Dailey of Crestview Hills; 24 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Rowena was a member of Pi Beta Phi Woman's Fraternity that was formed in 1867 and has the distinction of being the first fraternity to form a national philanthropic project and she was a graduate of the University of Illinois, majoring in French and Spanish.

Her early years of marriage were spent in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Ashland, Kentucky. Then in 1948 they moved to Elsmere. After 35 years in Elsmere, Rowena moved to an apartment in Fort Mitchell where she lived for 15 years before moving to Madonna Manor in 2001. She broke her hip and shoulder that year.

Over the years, she was a homemaker and after her husband's death, worked as a proofreader and editor for W.H. Anderson Law Book Publishing Company in Cincinnati. She enjoyed her family, traveling, reading, gardening, and playing bridge. She was a member of the Fort Mitchell Senior Citizens Group, the Lakeside Park Senior Citizens Group, former member of the Erlanger Lioness Club and she was awarded the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel.
