Robert Duncan Huey, age 94, long-time Boone County educator and coach passed away June 25, 2015.
He was born June 12, 1921 to John Howard Huey and Laura Porter Huey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven siblings.
On June 20, 1942 he married his sweetheart, Ruth Kottmyer Huey.
Duncan earned a B.S. and M.A. degrees from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College, now Eastern Kentucky University. He retired from the Boone County School System after more than 35 years of service where he also coached basketball at Boone County High School. He was a member of Hebron Masonic Lodge F&AM #757 for over fifty years and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.
In December 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Along with his brother in law, Richard Kottmyer (who managed Anderson Ferry), Duncan served overseas as a lead navigator on 30 missions over Germany and France on a “Flying Fortress” in the “Mighty 8th” Air Force, 398th Bomb Group, 603rd Bomb Squadron. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and European Theater Ribbon with 2 battle stars.
In addition to his beloved wife of 73 years, he is survived by his loving children: Donna Sue (Jim) Walker, Michael (Cindi) Huey, and Janis Kay Huey; beloved grandson, Kevin Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Monday June 29, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Additional visiting hours on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Funeral services to follow at 12:00 Noon. Reverend Steve Hankins officiating. Interment, with military honors, at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.
