Reverend Paul J. Brinker, 96, of Ft. Thomas, formerly of Covington, died Saturday, December 27, at Carmel Manor in Ft. Thomas. He was a retired Priest with the Diocese of Covington, Kentucky.
Father Brinker attended elementary school at St. John School in Covington. His secondary education was received at Covington Latin School. He received his Bachelor's degree from St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati and his Master's degree in Theology from St. Mary Seminary.
Father Brinker was ordained into the priesthood on June 6, 1936, by the Most Reverend Francis W. Howard at St. Mary Cathedral in Covington. In 1936, he was assigned to St. Vincent de Paul Church of Newport as the Associate Pastor. Also in 1936, he was assigned to Covington Latin School as a Faculty Member.
In 1941, Father Brinker was assigned to Blessed Sacrament Church of Ft. Mitchell as an Assistant. In 1945, he served as the Diocesan Director of Rural Life. In 1948, Father Brinker became the Chaplain at Notre Dame Academy of Park Hills and in 1949, he was assigned to Blessed Sacrament Church as an Administrator.
Father Brinker was assigned to St. Rose of Lima Church of Mays Lick, Kentucky as a Pastor in 1951. In 1957, he was assigned as the Pastor of St. Therese Church of Southgate. He received an assignment to St. Luke Hospital in Ft. Thomas as a Chaplain. Father Brinker retired from the priesthood in 1982.
Survivors include 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Arnold G. Brinker, Reverend Maurice Brinker, and Reverend Louis B. Brinker; sisters, Mary Ann Brinker, Sister Carmelita, and Alice Schwartz; and parents, Bernard H. and Philomena Middendorf Brinker.
