Ray Kemper, 94, of Union, KY passed away on July 3.
Born in Covington in 1921 Ray graduated from the Covington Latin School at age 16 and went to work to help support his family during the Great Depression. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served throughout World War II in the Pacific Theater, principally in the New Guinea and Philippine campaigns.
Returning home in 1946 he entered the University of Kentucky and graduated as an electrical engineer. He went to work for the Drackett Company, managing the engineering department for many years. He continued work in that capacity and later as Director of Manufacturing after the company was acquired by Bristol Myers.
In addition to his demonstrated acumen in math and sciences Ray was an accomplished artist in his youth and later an avid photographer. He was also a skilled carpenter and mechanic.
He wed Glenna Jones in 1946 and they remained married for 46 years until her death.
Ray remarried in 1995 and is survived by wife, Maggie, his brothers, Larry and Paul, his three children, Karen, Deborah, Keith and 4 grandchildren, Reid, Liam, Sean and Matt.
