Katherine Ryle

d. July 1, 2010

Katherine lived in Petersburg all her life. She was married to Jack Ryle for 37 years and he died 37 years before Katherine.
In 1949, Katherine and Jack Ryle opened Ryle's Little Supermart in Petersburg, Kentucky. The store was a community gathering place, where you could find all the news from Petersburg, Boone County and beyond.
When television first came around, Katherine and Jack were the second family in Petersburg to buy one, which they put in the back of the store where every Saturday night most of Petersburg came in to sit on the chairs, and floor, to watch whatever was being shown.
After Jack died, Katherine ran the store herself, selling it in 1991.
A member of Petersburg Christian Church for 80 years, Katherine was actively involved, serving on the Church board until the last election when she asked to step down. She was then made an honorary board member. Until last year Katherine sent get-well and other greeting cards to church members and non-church members. Katherine also worked the crafts table and baked goods table at the annual oyster supper at the Church.
Katherine donated the sign in front of Petersburg Christian, in honor of her late husband, Jack Ryle. She later donated the stained glass window in the Church.
Katherine belonged to the Petersburg Senior Citizens group, who would play bingo once a month, then head off to a nice restaurant for dinner.
Katherine was the Grand Grand Champion in the Baking and Sweets competition of the Boone County 4H and Utopia Fair, being named Grand Champion many times.
Katherine passed away at her home, at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Jack" Ryle and her parents, Claude and Ethel Nixson Edwards.
