Joseph "Joe" Beard, Jr.

Joseph L. “Joe” Beard, Jr., 57, of Florence passed away Sunday evening, April 1, 2018 at Hospice of St. Elizabeth, Edgewood.

Joe was a retired Teacher and Principal for Ludlow High School. He was formerly the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach for Ludlow High School and Gallatin County High School, leading Gallatin County to the Kentucky Sweet 16 State Tournament. He was also a former Athletic Director for Ludlow High School and, for several seasons, was selected the N.K.A.C. Coaches Association Division III Coach of the Year. Joe held his Rank I and Superintendent’s Certificate. He was a member and point guard for the Rushville Indiana High School 1976 basketball team that was the Indiana High School State Tourney Runner-Up.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Sr. and Mary Cook Beard.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin N. (Joshua) Moore of Erlanger; son, Andrew (Krista) Beard of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren, Ramsey Beard, Jacey Beard and Wesley Moore; sisters, Diana (the late Bill) Todd, Debra Cole and Sally (Joe) Niedenthal, all of Rushville, Indiana; brother, Mike (Mary Ann) Beard, also of Rushville, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Funeral services to immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington East Hill Cemetery, Arlington, Indiana.
