Johnny Deaton

Johnny Deaton, 76, of Hebron, formerly of Butler, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood. He retired after 20 years as a Machinist and Maintenance Dept. employee for Boston Gear IMO Industries, formerly of Florence. Johnny was never one to sit still, in his retirement he worked part-time for his nephew at Turner Machine in Dayton. He was an Associate at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Homes and at LATSE Local B38 Ticket Takers Union where he took tickets at Cincinnati Reds and Bengals games.

Born August 22, 1937 in Wolf Coal, Kentucky to the late Talbert “Tack” and Malinda Turner Deaton, Johnny was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Butler Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed UK Basketball and fishing but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy (Bill) Mullins of Ludlow and Karen (Jeff) Shoemaker, of Butler; two granddaughters, Donna Mullins of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Nancy Shoemaker of Butler; brothers, James “Rob” Deaton of Alexandria and Talbert “Sprig” (Betty) Deaton of Wolf Coal; sister, Polly Dunn of Wolf Coal; brother in law, Jim (Lana) Yelton of Falmouth; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna “Susy” Yelton Deaton; and sisters, Magdalene Turner and Rosa Lee Lingley.

Visitation is Friday, January 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, 8340 Hwy 27 North, Butler. Funeral Service is Saturday, January 4, 2013 4t 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth with military honors by Hardin-Browning Post # 109 American Legion. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Homes is serving the family.

Casual attire is preferred—wear your favorite UK or Duck Dynasty shirt if you have one.

Johnny’s family would like to thank Dr. Bob Albright and his nurses, Dr. Brian Schack, Dr. Scott Joseph, and the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth Edgewood on 2B1, CCU, and MICU and the Hospice Unit for their compassionate and attentive care.

His family encourages family and friends that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Johnny’s memory to By Grace Alone Farm Ministries, 550 Independence Pike, Dry Ridge, KY 41035.
