Herman B. Dorning, 87, of Covington, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his home. He was a retired lithographer with Stevenson Photo Color of Cincinnati.
Mr. Dorning was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II in the European Theatre. He was attached to an Artillery Unit and participated in the D-Day battle of the Normandy Invasion of France.
He was a member of the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington, the Crusaders Society of St. Elizabeth Medical Center, and the Dutchman's Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Powers Dorning; sons, Gregory (Linda) Dorning of Covington, William B. Dorning of Covington, and Michael Joseph (Laurie) Dorning of Hebron; daughters, Judith Dorning of Covington and Jennifer Dorning of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Michelle Dorning, Megan Dorning, Andi Dorning, Elliott Dorning, Ashley Dorning, and Allyson Dorning; and great grandson, Luke Warrington.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ronald Dorning and Norbert Dorning; sister, Rose Mary Knochelmann; and parents, Herman and Cora Margaret Wolfe Dorning.
Visitiation is Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 Noon at the church. Reverend Msgr. William Neuhaus to celebrate Mass. Entombment, with military honors, at St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
