Helen Mary Recker Leist, 99, of Ft.Wright, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Health Care, Edgewood. She was born on August 24, 1913 in Covington, to the late Raymond and Mary Luck Recker. Her husband, Joseph G. Leist, Jr. died on January 10, 2006.
Helen was a multi-talented person having graduated from St. Walberg Academy, the first woman to be a Kenton County Sheriff’s Deputy, the first woman lector at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, where she also served as a docent, an accomplished artist and teacher of fired-china porcelain painting, an avid golfer through her 98th year and a Kentucky Colonel.
Helen is survived by nephews Joe Leist of Crittenden, Jack Recker and Rick Recker both of Florida, Michael Hackman of Illinois, Robert Hackman of Cincinnati, Joseph Hackman of Villa Hills, nieces, Peggy Hagedorn of Florida, Penny Recker of Tennessee and Sue Sturgeon of Edgewood.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 10, 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1140 Madison Avenue, Covington. Visitation will begin there on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Entombment at St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
