Elvin Helms, Jr

Elvin E. “Rip” Helms Jr., 84, of Petersburg, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Health Care, Florence.

Mr. Helms was born on July 23, 1927 in Petersburg to the late Elvin E. “Pat” Helms and Emma Nixon Helms. He was a retired mechanical engineer for the former Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company, a member of the Elvin E. Helms Masonic Lodge #926 in Petersburg and a avid Connor High School Girls Basketball fan. He graduated from Hebron High School as valedictorian in 1945 and from the University of Kentucky in 1950.

Rip is survived by his sisters, Patricia Hogan of Burlington and Marilyn Peters of Petersburg. A sister, Nell Jo Tanner preceded him in death.
