Eleanor Ernest, 85, of Villa Hills, formerly of Bayonet Point, Florida, died Tuesday, December 18 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. She was a retired Glass Etcher with Fisher and Porter Company of Warminster, Pennsylvania.
She was born on Jannuary 22, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Adolph and Olga Penk Merks, had came to the United States several years earlier from Germany.
Eleanor married John Ernest on April 25, 1941, in Philadelphia and moved to the suburbs to raise their two daughters. John was an automobile mechanic and business owner while she worked as a glass engraver for Fisher & Porter Company for over 25 years. They retired to Bayonet Point, Florida, where she remained for several years after her husband's passing in 1992.
She was a very caring, compassionate and loving person. She had made many friends over the years and was able to travel the world. Her family best remembers their holiday gatherings where she would spend days baking the best chocolate chip cookies and apple pies. They also fondly recall the summer picnics and clambakes shared with family and friends.
She is survived by daughters, Carol Woodland of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Jayne Foley of Crescent Springs; sister, Claire Blickely of Tucson, Arizona; granchildren, Jeryl Girton of Pleasant Hill, California, Jennifer Foley of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rich Foley of Chicago, Illinois; and great granddaughter, Kimberly Girton.
She was preceded in death by husband of 51 years, John Ernest; and parents, Adolph and Olga Penk Merks.
