Clarence Goff, Jr

July 17, 1935 — September 17, 2012

Clarence Henry Goff, Jr., the oldest child of Clarence Sr. and Margaret McClain Goff, was born on July 17, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was later joined by brother, Robert, to complete the family circle. As a child, he was given the nickname “Sonny” within the family and later “Charlie” by his friends and co-workers.

Charlie received his elementary education in Steubenville, Ohio and was graduated with the class of 1953 at Steubenville High School.

He became a baptized member of the Labelle View Methodist Church and was active in the church while he lived in Ohio.

After graduating from high school, he attended Kent State University and joined the United States Air Force and served in the 1950s.

After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Charlie began work with the Federal Aviation Administration at several of the Cincinnati area airports. He continued working with the FAA for 32 years.

While working at the Greater Cincinnati Airport, he met the love of his life, Doris Evelyn Washmuth, known by her friends as “Dot”. They were married at the New Liberty Church on July 1, 1961 and spent 51 years together--never being apart except for time spent in hospitals. To their friends and family, they were always simply, Charlie and Dot.

They had no children, but were wonderfull loving aunt and uncle to four nieces and four nephews. Birthdays and Christmas were never forgotten even into the following generation of great nieces and nephews.

Charlie and Dot did everything together--housecleaning, yard work, vegetable gardening, and cutting fire wood. Charlie always seemed to be working around the house or in the garden. Charlie was also an amateur pilot and loved to fly. Both Charlie and Dot shared a passion for travel and their adventures included trips to New Zealand, Australia, and Central America via the Panama Canal. They traveled the States by train and car visiting most of our country’s Natural Parks.

As Dot’s health began to deteriorate earlier this year, Charlie was by her side as always. After Dot’s passing on August 10, 2012, Charlie’s health also began to fail. He passed away peacefully at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky on September 17, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris.

He is survived by his brother, Robert (Maggie) Goff, Sr. of Florissant, Missouri sister-in-law, Wilma (the late Karl) Lohide of Rising Sun, Indiana; nephews, Robert (Linda) Goff, Jr. of New Baden, Illinois, Paul (Linda) Lohide of Rising Sun, Indiana, Kurt Lohide of Napa, California, and Thomas (Loretta) Cummings of Brandy Station, Virginia; and nieces, Carol (John) Fox of Richmond, Virginia, Diana (Francis) Clementi of Louisville, Deborah (Chester) West of Louisville, and Cindy (Rory Dobbs) Clark of St. Charles, Missouri.
