Biography

Chester A. Turner, Jr., 81 of Erlanger, KY, passed away May 23, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 53 years, Marjorie Turner, a son Kevin C (Beverly) Turner, and three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Morgan and, Kevin “Chett” Turner, of Taylor Mill, Ky. Two nephews James C. Mouyeos of Santa Maria, Ca and Thomas W. Mouyeos of Anderson S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He had a deep faith and dearly loved his family and his home. Chester was very talented in woodworking, making most of the furniture in his home. He was an Army veteran, member of the Covington Masonic Lodge No 109 F&AM, and a member of Erlanger Christian Church where he served on the property committee for several years. Chester served in the Covington school system for ten years and the Fort Thomas school system for seventeen years, retiring as principal of Highland High School in 1987.
Over the years he served in many organizations. He served as president of the Ky association of Secondary School principals (KASSP), president of the Ky Association of School Administration (KASA) and received the KASA Leadership Award, served as member, vice president and president of the Ky high school athletic association (KHSAA), served as member, vice chairman and chairman of the Erlanger - Elsmere Board of Education, and served as a member of the Erlanger Board of Adjustments.

Chester received several honors and awards over the years. He was recognized and honored as an outstanding educator at an Eastern Kentucky University Centennial Awards Program, was the recipient of the 1987 Sports Equity Leadership Award presented at Eastern Kentucky University, received the Northern Kentucky School Administrators Distinguished Service Award, was selected as the principal recipient from Kentucky as one of the 52 outstanding Secondary School Principals in the nation during the “In Honor of Excellence in Education National Conference” held at Captiva Island, Fl, and was principal at Highland High School when the school was selected and honored in Washington D. C. as one of the most outstanding in the United States by the U.S. Office of Education.

The Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with service following at 4:00 p.m. at the Erlanger Christian Church, 27 Graves Avenue, Erlanger, Ky. Private family burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Erlanger Christian Church Mortgage Fund or the Charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
