Charles Houp

December 6, 1929 — April 2, 2010

Charles Lafon Houp, 80, of Danville, formerly of Ludlow, died April 2, 2010, at his home. Born in Ludlow, on December 6, 1929, he is the son of Edna Chambers Houp of Ft. Wright and the late Lafon Houp.

Charlie was a member of the Boyle County Fish and Game Club, the Casey County Gun Club and was a reloader and a talented gunsmith, carving scenes and names on gun stocks. He earned several awards in trapshooting at the Bluegrass State Games.

Charlie was a former member of the Merchant Marines and a Life Member of the VFW Post # 3634.

Charlie worked for the Norfolk & Southern Railway for 44 years as a brakeman and switchman and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He loved animals and especially missed his two dogs, Pearl and Foxy.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sue Adams Houp of Danville; a son, James Charles Houp of Ludlow; two daughters, Darleen (Cliff) Wynn of Fort Wright and Kimberly Houp of Florence; a sister, Carol Miller of Mansfield, Ohio; two brothers, William Ralph (Nancy) Houp and Melvin Houp, both of Fort Wright; two step-sons, Jackie (Stacy) Dye of Georgetown and Danny (Trena) Adams of Lancaster; two step-daughters, Linda Dye of Danville and Sherrie (Con) Horn of Louisville; three grandchildren, Alicia Drabick, Randy Maegly, and Lauren Maegly; two great-grandsons, Brady Drabick and Jack Maegley; nine step-grandchildren; and ten step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Jean Ferguson of Highland Heights.

SERVICES IN DANVILLE
Visitation will be in Danville at the Stith Funeral Home after 5 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2010.

SERVICES IN LUDLOW
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Funeral Service to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Paul Anglin officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

Memorial donations are requested to the American Heart Association.
