Charles W. "Burr" Reeves, co-owner of C. P. Reeves and Sons Fruit & Vegetable business located in Ludlow, died Monday, June 9 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. He was 86 years old and married to Sue Hetzel Reeves and resided in Hebron. Most recently, he had lived with his son, Greg, in Covington.
The produce business was started in 1915 by his father, C. P. Reeves, with a horse drawn wagon serving the Ludlow and Bromley communities.
After World War II, C. P.'s three sons, Charles "Burr", Robert "Sid" and Jim Reeves began in the family business to which they would eventually take over from their father when he retired.
The three sons expanded the family business to include the opening of the Reeve's Produce Market in Florence and Reeve's Dairy Cheer, with locations in Ludlow and Florence.
Burr's main love was always the produce markets where he continued to work until the age of 82. Following his retirement four years ago, his nephew, Steve Webb, took over the Produce Market in Ludlow.
Burr enjoyed raising Christmas Trees on the family farm in Hebron. This tree farm was one of the first to introduce the idea of cutting your own tree. Burr's sister, Dorothy Webb, continues the tree farm today. Burr was the last of his brothers living.
He was a member of the Ludlow Vets, Bromley Vets, a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Community of Faith Presbyterian Church of Covington.
