On August 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM, God called our beloved sister, Audra Melissa Dryer, home.
Audra, known to us as Missy or Nub, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her brothers, Clint and James, and her best friend, Gina. She was prayed over, cherished, and reminded of how deeply she was loved and appreciated as the sweetest sister we could have ever hoped for.
Born the oldest of five siblings on January 30, 1968 in Covington, KY to Gregory and Audrey (Houp) Dryer, Missy took on the role of caretaker for her four younger brothers, filling our lives with love, joy, and a bit of chaos—whether it was through the pets she adored, her unwavering hugs, or the countless ways she made us smile. Although life was often unkind to her, she loved with all her heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. Her greatest joy came from knowing how we were doing and ensuring our happiness. As our brother Clint said, "Missy was a wonderful big sister—thoughtful, loving, generous, and exceptionally kind." She fiercely protected her family, embodying the role of a big sister and aunt with grace and devotion.
Missy now joins our parents, Greg and Audrey, and our brothers, Vincent and Chris, in Heaven.
She is survived by her brother Clint, his family (Scotty Roberts, Paisley Patrice, Hadley Renee, Preston King, and Hannah Bennett), and her youngest brother, James, and his family. We are forever grateful to Gina, Missy's best friend since tenth grade. Gina did for Missy what few others could or would do, always ensuring she was taken care of and never alone. Gina was more than a friend; she was family in every sense of the word. Her unwavering support, frequent visits, and thoughtful gestures, like watching a silly movie after a scary one to leave Missy with a smile, meant the world to our sister—and to us.
For anyone who visited Missy, you’d always be greeted with your favorite drink, a warm smile, and her eager questions about your well-being. She was a remarkable listener, always making sure everyone felt cared for. Her thoughtfulness extended to gifts, too—Missy would buy them well in advance, ensuring that birthdays, Christmases, anniversaries, and other special occasions were never forgotten.
Missy had been quietly battling cancer for the past few years, a struggle she kept from us so we wouldn't worry. On August 8th, she entered St. Elizabeth's Hospital, with Gina by her side. Her health rapidly declined, and by August 21st, she entered Hospice care. It never feels like enough time to say goodbye when you think you have forever, or even months, to make everything right. But we find comfort in knowing Missy received her last rites and that her final wishes will be honored.
A private ceremony will be held for immediate family and close friends. Missy will be cremated and laid to rest in the earth, surrounded by those who loved her.
Missy, our hearts ache with the knowledge that you didn’t have the life you deserved. We love you deeply, and we will carry the promise we made to you—to cherish the happy memories and honor your loving spirit. God bless you and may all the angels of Heaven guide you home. With all our love, your baby brothers.
